Canoe Beach Resort Pundakit Zambales [Review] » What You See Is What You Get

Pundakit Zambales has been gifted with natural beauty and now becoming a favorite travel destination among backpackers and island hoppers. It is perfectly suited for travelers seeking a refreshing Philippine countryside without going too far from Manila. Today, beach resorts and hotel business flourish in the area because of its rustic glory and beauty, thus it is now a challenge searching for cheap resort and accommodation when planning a trip to Pundakit.

As much as possible, we would like a handpicked hotel or resort that could met our basic needs such as convenient location, comfortable rooms with amenities, good customer service and with an atmosphere that offers local charm. It is when oftentimes we refer to online hotel or resort reviews, friend referrals and blogs.

Accordingly, I would like to share here our travel experience at Canoe Beach Resort where we stayed during our quick Pundaquit weekend getaway. Hopefully this will help you decide if you are looking for affordable resort in Pundakit.

Canoe Beach Resort

We avoided the larger, expensive resorts and choose to stay at Canoe Beach Resort because we just want a comfortable, clean and simple accommodation. We are here to enjoy the beach and the islands anyway.

Canoe Beach Resort is located at Pundakit (also spelled Pundaquit), in San Antonio, Zambales. This area is the most convenient jump-off site if you are planning to do island hopping at Camara Island, Capones Island, Anawangin Cove and Nagsasa Cove.

The resort’s beachfront also offers a unique view of the nearby coves adding a peculiar touch to the blue horizon.  Upon arrival, you can instantly feel the small scale island charm and breathe the clean cold sea breeze.

How to get there

Victory liner bus offers regular trip to Zambales. Ask the driver to drop you at San Antonio market and from there you can ride a tricycle going to Canoe Beach Resort. You can check the official website of Victory Liner for the schedule of trips and fare at www.victoryliner.com

You can also check the navigation map from Iba Zambales via Olongapo & San Antonio here.

Quick Note:
  • Canoe Beach Resort is 5 KMS away from Evangelista St.
  • Via Private vehicle: 3 - 3 1/2 hrs from Manila to Pundaquit.
  • Via Public Utility Bus: 4-4 1/2 hrs Victory Bus Liner (Pasay/Cubao/Kalookan Terminal).
Good Points/Pros
  • Courteous resort staff and dependable customer service. I sent separate inquiries via e-mail on three different resorts in Pundaquit and Canoe Beach Resort is the only one who responded. That’s definitely a plus because I received their reply within an hour. Ms. Annie, their reservation officer was generally courteous and patiently answered all our inquiries without adding those annoying marketing pitches. She just offered what the resort got – nothing more nothing less.

  • Affordable room rates. Based on my inquiries, Canoe Beach resort offers the best deal for family or group accommodation. We booked two air-conditioned rooms for eight pax at 8,000.00 Pesos for two nights. If you are on a really tight budget, they also offer a dorm-type non-aircon rooms for a cheaper price.

Observations/Cons
  1. They didn’t provide towels, no refrigerator, TV
  2. No hot water for shower
  3. No Credit card facilities
  4. No nearby restaurants or convenience store

Tips
  • Buy all the things you need, such as food and other personal stuff on your way going to the resort if you don’t have private vehicle because transportation going to the public market may not be readily available.
  • Never go during rainy season if you intend to do island hopping. Rainy season is best only for surfing enthusiasts.
  • Never forget to bring your own towel and personal hygiene kit.
  • Beachfront is facing an open sea so be extra careful when swimming at the beach.

What you see is what you get

Zambales is scenic on its unique way, thus a warm and inviting atmosphere, small scale-charm, cleanliness, affordable room rates and a favorable location must be our top priorities when looking for accommodation or resort to stay on this area.

Although Canoe Beach Resort only offers the basics, it gives us modest, yet reasonably comfortable accommodation options – just perfect for a group countryside weekend getaway.
