Marina Gears Up for Digital Transformation with Two Key Initiatives

MARINA BEST for Filipino Seafarers | Online System and App Overview & Tutorial | Blockchain-Enabled Automated Certification System | Maritime Industry Authority

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) is setting its sights on a digital future, aiming to roll out two major projects by June 2024 that will streamline operations and enhance transparency. Introducing the Marina Blockchain-Enabled Automated Certification System (BEST) and the Maritime Energy Demand Information and Analysis Software (MEDIANS), the agency is paving the way for a more efficient and contactless maritime industry.

BEST: Streamlining Certification and Transactions

At the forefront of Marina's digital push is BEST, a blockchain-powered web application designed to revolutionize the way certifications are obtained and transactions are conducted. By moving online, BEST promises:

Real-time application processing: No more waiting in lines! All applications will be processed electronically and accessible through web or mobile platforms.

  • Contactless transactions: Say goodbye to paperwork! Electronic certificates and licenses will eliminate the need for physical documents.
  • Online payment options: Marina clients can now pay their dues conveniently through the system.
  • Transaction tracking and updates: Stay informed every step of the way with real-time updates on your transactions.
  • Automated expiration notifications: Never miss a deadline again! BEST will send alerts for expiring certificates.

BEST covers a wide range of agency processes, benefiting a variety of stakeholders, including:

  • Shipyard operators
  • Seafarers
  • Maritime training providers
  • Shipping agencies

MEDIANS: Optimizing Energy Usage

Complementing BEST is MEDIANS, a software program dedicated to monitoring and analyzing the maritime sector's energy consumption. This initiative aims to:

  • Gather data on fuel usage: MEDIANS will collect real-time data on fuel consumption from various maritime vessels.
  • Identify areas for improvement: By analyzing the data, MEDIANS will pinpoint areas where energy efficiency can be optimized.
  • Promote sustainable practices: The insights gained from MEDIANS will help stakeholders make informed decisions about adopting more sustainable fuel and operational strategies.

A Commitment to Progress

These two digital projects are aligned with the updated Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028, demonstrating Marina's commitment to a modern and efficient maritime sector. By embracing digital solutions, the agency is paving the way for a more transparent, sustainable, and competitive maritime industry in the Philippines.

Looking Ahead

The rollout of BEST and MEDIANS is a significant step forward for the Philippine maritime industry. These initiatives hold the potential to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and promote sustainable practices. As Marina continues its digital transformation journey, we can expect to see even more innovative solutions emerge in the years to come.

Call to Action

Marina's digital transformation efforts not only benefit the industry but also contribute to the Philippines' overall economic development. By supporting and participating in these initiatives, all stakeholders can play a role in building a stronger and more competitive maritime sector for the future.

Let's work together to make the Philippine maritime industry a leader in digital innovation and sustainability!
