Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) conducted pilot-test within the centralized online ticketing system at Batangas Port and Calapan Oriental Mindoro Port which hopes to deter overbooking by shipping lines, improving safety in the industry.

The online booking system, which will provide ticketing for roll-on/roll-off passenger ships (Ro-Ro ships), will be managed by the PPA.

Shipping lines have their own online ticketing systems to process advance booking of tickets but they tend to overbook, according to the PPA.

Ports authority also launched the contact tracing app aside from the automated ticketing system at Batangas Port & Calapan Port.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) launched its own contact tracing app and automated ticketing system to curb COVID-19 transmission in terminals - Port of Batangas and Calapan Port.

PPA general manager Jay Daniel Santiago said the Transport Department  will also launch the app soon.

Today they conducted test run for the automated ticketing system.

There will be no need for face-to-face contact with ticketing agents as automated machines will be placed in terminals.

He said that the DOTr is also studying to have a unified contact tracing platform for public transport units in the country.
