Ilocos Norte, Paoay Church Light Up Amazing Christmas Light Show - LAOAG CITY Philippines - Paoay Church lighting another landmark to brighten Xmas season. Christmas in Ilocos Norte is set to be merry and bright as another iconic landmark will be light-up and open for public viewing starting Thursday (Dec. 10) from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The joyful symphony lights which start to illuminate the newly-repaired Paoay Church, a component of the collective UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site inscription “Baroque churches of the Philippines”. The lights show in Paoay will feature a medley of traditional songs of merriment and thanksgiving. 


As an icon of Ilocandia, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a constant reminder of Ilokano faith and devotion and a site of pilgrimage for Christians from all over the world.


Visiting the Paoay Church complex will be regulated. When going there, there are traffic rules and viewing schedules to follow. Visitors are also advised to use the SafePass QR Code, wear a face mask, and always observe social distancing.


Paoay Church

The Saint Augustine Church (Spanish: Iglesia de San Agustรญn de Paoay), commonly known as the Paoay Church, is a Roman Catholic church in the Municipality of Paoay, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines. Completed in 1710, the church is famous for its distinct architecture highlighted by the enormous buttresses on the sides and back of the building. It is declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the Philippine government in 1973 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the collective group of Baroque Churches of the Philippines in 1993.


Ilocos Norte

Ilocos Norte (Ilocano: Amianan nga Ilocos; Probinsia ti Ilocos Norte) is a province of the Philippines located in the Ilocos Region. Its capital is Laoag City, located in the northwest corner of Luzรณn Island, bordering Cagayan and Apayao to the east, and Abra to the southeast, and Ilocos Sur to the southwest. Ilocos Norte faces the West Philippine Sea to the west and the Luzon Strait to the north. Ilocos Norte is noted for being the birthplace of the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.
