LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project Now More Than Halfway to Completion
______________________________
The eagerly-awaited LRT- 1 Cavite Extension Project is now more than halfway to completion, as we report an over all progress rate of 50.61% as of 31 December 2020.
TRIVIA: Did you know that the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project was DELAYED FOR ALMOST 19 YEARS before the Duterte Administration came in?
The recent construction activities of this highly anticipated project features the bored piling, pier/portal column works, and the MIA station foundation works, altogether with the launching of PI girder which is the chief horizontal support in the structure made for turn back slots.
The accelerated pace of construction also includes the expansion of existing depot in Baclaran, and the building of a new satellite depot at Zapote.
This 11.7km railway LRT-1 Cavite Extension project, which will extend the existing LRT line 1 from Baclaran to Niog, Bacoor in Cavite, is expected to reduce the travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor, Cavite, from 1 hour and 10 minutes down to 25 minutes only. It is also projected to increase the line's capacity to accommodate and serve 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.
When Secretary Arthur Tugade came in mid-2016, only a whopping zero (0) percent has already been certified 'free and clear' by an independent consultant. It was a dismal percentage, given that the right of way (ROW) acquisition got its budget from Congress way back in 2007.
Now, fortunately, that disappointing statistic has been erased.
On 07 May 2019, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), together with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and Light Rail Manila Corporation, formalized the official start of construction work for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project. Upon completion, this railway line is expected to reduce travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor, Cavite, from 1 hour and 10 minutes down to just 25 minutes. It is also projected to increase the line's capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.
Under the guidance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the determination of Secretary Tugade, and the dedication of LRTA administrator Reynaldo Berroya, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project is finally here.
With a mandate to fast track the construction of said project, partial operations is expected by the end of 2021.
The current LRT Line 1 is being extended starting from its existing Baclaran Station to the future Niyog Station in Bacoor, Cavite which is approximately 11.7 kilometers. Of this length, 10.5 kilometers will be elevated and 1.2 kilometers will be at-grade. The whole stretch of the integrated LRT 1 will have a total length of approximately 32.4 kilometers and will be operated and maintained by the private proponent.
DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan said that by December 2021, the first station of the Cavite Extension, Redemptorist Station in Baclaran, will be partially operational.
The remaining three stations are scheduled for completion in 2022
In total, the LRT-1's Cavite extension will span 11.7 kilometers from Baclaran Station southward and will traverse eight more stations — Redemptorist Station, MIA Station, Asiaworld Station, Ninoy Aquino Station, Las Piñas Station, Zapote Station, and Niog Station.
Once complete, it will extend the existing 20-kilometer LRT-1 to 32 kilometers and boost its passenger capacity from 500,000 passengers to 800,000 passengers per day.
The extension project is expected to cut the travel time from Baclaran to Bacoor City, Cavite from the current one to two hours to only 25 minutes.
