Red Flags of Suicide & What You Can Do | Suicide Prevention Awareness [Mental Health]
World Suicide Prevention Day is being observed today (September 10th) to highlight various ways by which suicide can be prevented. |
Suicide can be a hard topic to bring up in conversation, and it's something that we as a society haven't talked about enough in the past. But that is changing.
We now know the importance of opening up and speaking out about mental health - because you can’t address an issue properly if you don't talk about it. There's no shame in saying you need help.
Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. Suicidal thoughts, although common, should not be considered normal and often indicate more serious issues. Suicides and suicide attempts have a domino effect that impacts not only individuals, but also families, communities, and society.
Let's take time to check our loved ones and ourselves on how they are doing. We can also lend our ears and encourage them to share their stories and seek professional help.
SHARE THE HOPE
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness on this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. In addition to shifting public perception, we use this month to spread hope and vital information to people affected by suicide. Our goal is to ensure that individuals, friends, and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. 1 in 100 deaths is by suicide. If you know someone who may be considering suicide: reach out. Offer help. Let them know you care. |
