Our Review

Barkada or group of friends dining and smiling at Tolentino's Unli Ihaw in Mandaluyong Branch
We call ourselves the Team Lamon

It is a good idea to check the reviews and ask locals or friends for recommendations before visiting this "all-you-can-eat" restaurant in Mandaluyong to get an idea of the quality of food and service. There are some other unli-seafood restaurant that we tried in Mandaluyong area like the Hilltop Crabs Buffet and each restaurant has different quality food and service, long wait times or food that is not up to par.

Better to have a reservation first at their FB page because they don't usually accept walk-ins. We are just lucky because when we visited this restaurant, there are vacant seats and it is not fully booked.

Area to refill the unlimited inihaw

Once seated they will give you a complimentary food platter in their menu before you re-fill what you want. Sience we are in a group,  we have to have one designated person to get what our group want for refills, they will put hand tag to designated person who has to fall in a long line of people to have the food. The pre-cooked inihaw options are placed in the glass shelf display counter, so it is served cold. Not all viand in the ads are in the counter, you have to ask if it is available or you have to ask for what you want.

We requested more scallops and pampano. Alimasag and hipon are a bit small so we didn't really enjoyed it. Maybe they can also include unli-steamed vegetables (like steamed camote tops). They have it, but it was served only on the initial sample platter - no refills.

Overall the food is good for the price. some foods in the menu are not purely "Inihaw" I would say half cooked or half boiled then Inihaw something like that.

The restaurant is a little bit small than expected. Place is crowded most of the time. Staffs are friendly and accommodating.

Will I go back? Maybe, when we craved for inihaw na pampano & scallops.

Side Notes: What is Inihaw or Ihaw?

Inihaw is a Filipino cooking method that involves grilling meat over hot coals or an open flame. The word "inihaw" literally means "grilled" in Tagalog, and it is a popular way of preparing meat in the Philippines, where there is a rich tradition of outdoor cooking and eating.

One of the most popular inihaw dishes is inihaw na baboy, or grilled pork. Pork is marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and black pepper before being skewered and grilled to perfection. The marinade helps to tenderize the meat and add flavor, while the grilling process gives it a crispy and slightly charred exterior. Inihaw na baboy is often served with rice and a dipping sauce made of soy sauce, vinegar, and chili peppers.

Another popular inihaw dish is inihaw na manok, or grilled chicken. Chicken is marinated in a mixture of coconut milk, lemongrass, ginger, and other spices before being skewered and grilled. The marinade helps to add a distinct flavor and moisture to the chicken, and the grilling process gives it a delicious smoky taste. Inihaw na manok is often served with rice and a dipping sauce made of calamansi or local lime, soy sauce and other seasonings.

Inihaw can also include fish, seafood, squid, and even vegetables like eggplant, bell peppers, and mushrooms, are also grilled and served with different dipping sauces.

Inihaw dishes are a staple in most Philippine parties, events, and occasions and are often cooked in a "Kalutan" or a grill station set up at the backyard. It's a fun, social and interactive way of cooking and eating that is enjoyed by both locals and visitors alike. Inihaw dishes are also sold by street vendors, "carenderias" and other small food establishments.

Inihaw is a delicious and traditional way of cooking meat in the Philippines that showcases the country's rich culinary heritage. With its bold flavors and smoky taste, it is sure to satisfy any meat lover's cravings.
